Mathematics

How is Mathematics a sacred subject?

The ultimate purpose of Mathematics is the pursuit of truth. The thinking skills inherent in the mathematics curriculum should inspire and enable learners to be innovative, creative, critical and analytical learners. Exploring the beauty of mathematics enables all learners to engage with the transcendent dimensions of life, freeing them to be pioneers, trailblazers and the inventors needed today and in the future. The real-world context comes first, and the theory comes second.

At St. Rose’s Infants at St Cuthbert Mayne Juniors, We have adopted a mastery approach to teaching and learning in mathematics.  Mastering mathematics means pupils of all ages can aquire a deep, long-term, secure and adaptable understanding of the subject.

We believe that every child can achieve in mathematics and strive to teach a rich, balanced and progressive curriculum allowing pupils to reason, problem solve and develop fluent conceptual understanding in each area. Our curriculum focus on developing a strong sense of number, fluency and skills.

Long Term plan

Maths Progression of skills - Early Years to Key Stage 2

As linked schools, we have a progressive curriculum from Pre - School to Year 6 ensuring that complete coverage of the National Curriculum is taught by the time pupils leave Key Stage 2.

The Government have also produced a 'Ready to Progress' document which highlights the key skills that show that a child is ready to move on to the next phase of their mathematical learning.
